New Disk Defragmenter – Loving it

For years I have been using the extremely slow and less than desirable Windows Defragmentation tools included with Windows 2000/2003 and XP.

Few months back I went to searching for a third party alternative and found Diskeeper which I REALLY do like. One of the most seductive things that Diskeeper used to draw me in was the realtime defrags that didn’t have to be scheduled and it included scheduling for defrags. Really simple and helpful, but I have 4 different computers and they only allow you to license each PC or the software won’t update.

So…again I was searching :)

Today, I ran across a piece of software that I must RAVE about. JKDefrag – a completely free alternative that is just as fast and command line capable. It also provides a TON of improvements over the basic defrag for windows. Here is a small list:
* Much faster.
* Totally automatic, extremely easy to use.
* Optimized for daily use.
* Better disk optimization.
* Directories are moved to the beginning of the disk.
* Reclaims MFT reserved space after disk-full.
* Maintains a free space for temporary files.
* Can defrag very full harddisks.
* Can defrag very large files.
* Can defrag individual directories and files.
* Can be run automatically with the Windows Scheduler.
* Can be used from the commandline.
* Can be used as a screen saver.
* Sources available, can be customized.

The line above says it all. It is open source.

I think anyone in their right mind who cares about the speed and file access time of your servers or desktop PC’s at a cost you can’t argue (FREE), you should check it out.

He doesn’t have a PayPal link to donate so I am donating the only way I know how. I will be hosting the newest versions of the files here to download instead of burning all of his bandwidth :P

Download:
JkDefrag v3.8 (315kb) for Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista
JkDefrag64 v3.8 (317kb) for Windows X64
JkDefrag v3.8 sources (233kb) for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005

    Its hard not to like Diskeeper. My system was trudging along like a worm until i ran crapcleaner and then someone recommended Diskeeper. It wiped out all those red blocks so smooth. The computer runs so much faster now. I have it scheduled to run in the background, seems to be quite light on CPU. I’ve heard the latest one with Invisitasking is awesome.

    Well like I said, no problems with Diskeeper. I just prefer not to buy 3-4 licenses for more than 1 computer. This is free and does everything but background scanning.
