Kevin's blurry train of thought……

New Linux Phone Available in March…Open Source OS!

If you see this for the first time, you could think it’s just another
iPhone-clone. But if someone copied the other than it might be the
opposite direction.
You can see the design of the prototype from November 2006 on…

The FIC Neo1973 Smartphone has the right design of the time anyway.

The technical is quite ok:

  • 120.7 x 62 x 18.5 (mm)
  • 2.8" VGA (480×640) TFT Screen
  • Samsung s3c2410 SoC 266 MHz
  • Global Locate AGPS chip
  • Ti GPRS (2.5G not EDGE)
  • Unpowered USB 1.1
  • Bluetooth (2.0)
  • Touchscreen
  • micro-sd slot
  • 2.5mm audio jack
  • 2 additional buttons
  • 1200 mAh battery (charged over USB)
  • 128 MB SDRAM
  • 64 MB NAND Flash

But the very special thing is the Software. OpenMoko
is a new GNU/Linux-Desktop especially for mobile devices. That makes
the door wide open for free software from OGG-Player to
Python-Compiler. You can be enthusiastic about it.
There is no fixed
release date by now. It could be November 2007 for a street date.
OpenMoko is ready from today on and will be available in march.
